We were honored last night with the presentation of a Preservation Award from the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation for our work on the History by Bike route.
Rachel Ruhlen, the Regional Commission’s bike planner, and I were presented the award by Alison Blanton, president of the Roanoke Valley Preservation Foundation. In all fairness, Rachel did the lion’s share of the work on developing our History by Bike self-guided tours, while Alison and her team provided narrative and photographs for the various stops along the routes.
Our self-guided tours, including the History by Bike route, can all be found here. Open the routes on your smartphone with location services enabled to follow along.
Our hope is that with tours like History by Bike and Art by Bike, people will feel more comfortable exploring and navigating the Roanoke Valley’s urban network by bike – and will realize how easy it is to get around on two wheels, probably on pathways and through neighborhoods one might never have explored by car.
