RIDE Solutions & Friends of Blue Ridge Bike Rack Donation Program

Application to solicite a bike rack

Application

The current application/solicitation will run through March 15, 2026.

We anticipate that bike rack production will be completed by July of 2026.

RVARC  may reach out to certain public or non-profit organizations may be solicited to determine if they are interested in a bike rack.

Recipient Responsibilities

The bike rack recipient is responsible for:

  • Picking up the bike rack upon completion from the manufacturer shop (details will be provided)
  • Guarantee complete installation of the bike rack within 6 months of receiving it. Priority is given to applicants that can guarantee the installation is fully under their control. Applicants should consider the following installation details before applying:
    • Access to adequate site for installation, a 12Ft x 6Ft area is advised for comfortable maneuvering of the bike. But exceptions can be made.
    • Ability to acquire any right-of-way permits, if needed for public space installation.
    • Surface preparation (concrete or other hard surface preferred) and maintenance.
    • Long-term upkeep of the bike racks.

RIDE Solutions reserves the right to request the bike rack back if installation is not completed or good will to complete it is not shown.

Location / Applicant Selection

Applications will be reviewed and accepted based on demonstrated need in the application, the applicant’s address, the proposed location of the bike rack within the applicant’s address, and capacity for applicant to install the bike rack (including transporting from storage location). As stated above, part of the goal of the program is to equitably distribute bike racks throughout the FBR/RVARC service area.

Cost

FBR/RVARC are making the bike racks free for public institutions and community-based organizations. For private entities, the cost of the bike rack will be negotiated based on the proposed location, planned use, and demonstrated need. Bike rack installation costs, and logistics are the responsibility of receiving organizations, whether public, non-profit, or private.
