On Wednesday, September 21, RIDE Solutions participated in Virginia Tech’s Active Commute Celebration. The event included 13 groups and organizations on campus and in the larger community that are promoting sustainable ways to actively commute – i.e., bike, bus and walk – and offering ways to change your perspective on when and where you can leave your car behind.
The day brought plenty of opportunity to talk with students, faculty and staff and others in the community about the resources RIDE Solutions has for dropping the single-occupancy car habit and improving wellness and connection to our community.
Other attractions for the event included free breakfast compliments of the campus Alternative Transportation program, stationary bike time trials, and the unveiling of the program’s new cargo bike named Bikey McBike-Face (which we may have taken a spin on!). The bike was named thanks to the final votes in a naming competition conducted on social media and around campus.
All in all it was a great day to connect with commuters and other working to promote healthy, safe and sustainable ways to travel without your car. Thanks to VT Alternative Programs for inviting us to be a part of it! We’re already looking forward to next year’s event.
