Improving Bike and Pedestrian Safety in Martinsville

A variety of state and local organizations have come together in the West Piedmont region to discuss changes that can make roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

The goal is to make roads more accommodating for cyclists and pedestrians across Martinsville and Henry County by encouraging local jurisdictions to make improvements to existing roads and paths.  The group has looked at efforts that could link existing cycling and walking trails with neighborhoods to improve the overall network of alternate transportation routes.

The group hopes their efforts will improve options for individuals using alternate modes of transportation and encourage individuals to commute in a manner that improves both the environmental health of the region and the health of individuals that choose to walk or bike to their destination.
