Not Sure If You Can Bike to Work?
The cool gear and clothes might make it easier, but Lycra is not required to reap the benefits of cycling. You only need a little planning to get going. Here are some ideas:
- Ride to a coworker’s house and carpool to work.
- Try riding to work and taking mass transit home, then alternating the next day.
- Bike to the nearest transit stop and take your bicycle with you on the bus.
- Do a test ride on the weekend – check out the RIDE Solutions trip planner to find the fastest way to work.
Remember, when sharing the road, make sure you wear high visibility clothing and abide by the motor vehicle laws of the Commonwealth. At night, wear reflective clothing or accessories, use a headlight and taillight and always wear a helmet. Health Benefits of Biking
Cycling to work can transform your daily commute into an enjoyable part of your day. Numerous studies have shown that daily exercise can reduce stress, boost your mood, improve sleep, and reduce anxiety. It also improves cardiovascular and aerobic fitness, lowers blood pressure, builds muscle, and can increase energy levels.
Celebrate Biking All Month Long
May is National Bike Month and there are many ways to celebrate!
National Bike to Work Day is Friday, May 17th. Stop by the Draper Road tent in Blacksburg between 7:30 and 9:00 AM for refreshments and fun before you bike to work.
The RIDE Solutions Bike to Work Challenge runs throughout May.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
