The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) is pleased to announce that March 4 – 8, 2019 is Telework Week in Virginia. DRPT and commuter assistance agencies across the Commonwealth are encouraging Virginia businesses to explore teleworking first-hand by allowing eligible employees to telework at least one day that week.

“DRPT is proud to sponsor Telework Week in Virginia for the 9th consecutive year. Teleworking is a great way for Virginia businesses to boost their bottom line and ensure continuity of operations during inclement weather,” said DRPT Director Jennifer Mitchell. “It’s a win-win for employees and the businesses that employ them.”

By establishing and implementing telework programs for their employees, businesses in Virginia can take advantage of the many significant benefits of telework. Allowing employees to work from home one day a week can improve employee productivity, increase employee retention, reduce traffic congestion, and expand the pool of prospective employee candidates.

Through a partnership between DRPT and VDOT, businesses in Northern Virginia can also receive free technical assistance and up to $10,000 in financial assistance to develop telework policies, identify and assess positions best suited for telework, and train managers how to manage teleworkers.
More information for individuals and businesses interested in starting or expanding a telework program can be found at teleworkva.org.
