From our inbox to yours: VDOT is pleased to announce another round of Non-Infrastructure Grants for 2017!
The success of Virginia’s SRTS program is due in large part to the dedicated local coordinators funded by the Non-Infrastructure Grants. The program began with 10 coordinators for the 2013-2014 school year and has grown to 17 coordinators working in 16 jurisdictions throughout the Commonwealth. To expand the reach of SRTS even further, school divisions that have received full funding for at least three years will be asked to include a 20 percent local match as part of their grant budget for the year.
As in years past, a VDOT-approved Activities and Programs Plan (APP) is required for the application. This first step in the application process documents your intentions for enabling and encouraging students to use active transportation as they travel to and from school. Information on the APP is available on the School Travel Plans and Grants page. Resources include Guidelines, a plan template and a FAQ sheet. Previously submitted APPs must be updated to reflect your most recent activities and planning for the grant period.
Program staff will again be available to review your draft APP for completeness if you submit it to your LTAC via email. APPS submitted by March 10th will be guaranteed a review and response by March 24th. Beyond that date APPs will be reviewed on a first come first served basis and as resources are available.
Once it is completed, applicants should submit their APP (as a PDF) via the online grant management system. Upon submission of the APP, the applicant will be granted access to the application within two business days. Being granted access to the online application does not indicate that the APP meets all of the necessary requirements, and the applicant may be asked to revise the APP prior to submitting the completed application.
The online application will open for submissions on March 17, 2017, and all applications must be complete and submitted by 12:00 PM April 17, 2017.
For more information about purpose of the grant, funding limits, eligible activities and other pertinent details, please consult the Virginia SRTS Program Guidelines on the Non-Infrastructure Grants page of the program website. If you have any questions, you can contact us at 1-855-601-7787 or email the LTAC for your region.
I look forward to working with you over the next few months to help your schools get access to this great resource.
Rob Williams, Virginia Safe Routes to School Coordinator
