The Piedmont Area Regional Transit (PART) will add a third bus for passengers in Martinsville and Henry County, starting this month.
Martinsville City Manager Leon Towarnicki said the bus, which will travel through the southern part of the city and nearby areas in the county, will start its route April 24.
A formal kickoff event for the new route is being planned for May 1. During the week before the event, any slight route changes that officials might determine are needed for the public transportation system will be worked out, Towarnicki told Martinsville City Council on Tuesday.
A public information session about the PART system will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 10 at the Virginia Museum of Natural History on Starling Avenue. People can drop by at their leisure to ask local officials questions about the buses and the routes, Towarnicki said. No formal presentation is planned.
Buses will continue running from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The full announcement can be found here.
