Mayor Leads Roanoke Into Bike Month on Roanoke River Greenway

Roanoke, Va., April 24, 2009 – The Roanoke River Greenway will be host to two events officially kicking off Bike Month 2009. First, Roanoke City Mayor David Bowers will lead a short, 2.5-mile ride from Wasena Park along the Roanoke River Greenway to downtown Roanoke at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2.

The ride will end at the Mayor’s Monument in Elm Park and coincides with a number of downtown festivals including the 30th Annual Chili Cookoff and the Strawberry Festival. Escorted trips back to Wasena Park from the Mayor’s Monument in Elm Park will leave every half hour until 2:00 p.m.

From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. pack your paint gear and lunch and join the Lonely Arts Club for the Bike and Paint Out on the Roanoke River Greenway. The destination will be announced on the Bike Month website or just cruise along the greenway looking for funky painterly bikers along the route.
