RIDE Solutions Expands Services with Go Green Taxi
For Immediate Release, 02/24/2009
Roanoke, Va., February 24, 2009 Jeremy Holmes, Program Director for RIDE Solutions, is excited to announce the addition of Go Green Taxi a Vinton, Virginia based taxi service to its list of Guaranteed Ride Home providers. Go Green Taxi is the only taxi service in the region to operate only hybrid-electric vehicles.
"It is a natural partnership," says Holmes. "Many of our members are concerned about their environmental impact, and participate in RIDE Solutions as a way of reducing their carbon footprint. With Go Green Taxi on the menu of Guaranteed Ride Home providers, our members have access to an even more environmentally friendly option on days when they might otherwise get stuck at work.
The Guaranteed Ride Home benefit provides all registered members of RIDE Solutions up to four free taxi rides a year on days when they carpool, bike, take the bus, or walk to work. The only requirement is that the commuter must be registered in the regional database, and that they must use an alternative mode at least twice a week. To use the program, members simply present a voucher and their membership card to the taxi driver and go there is no prepayment or reimbursement necessary. Other Guaranteed Ride Home providers are Yellow Cab, Quality Cab, the Smart Way Bus, Hooptie Ride, and FASCAB. Members have the choice of which provider they wish to use.
Sustainable transportation is high on the list of Go Green Taxis goals. They currently operate two hybrid vehicles a Prius and a Camry with two more Prius on the way. Hybrid electric vehicles recapture energy through a process known as regenerative braking, where the energy normally lost through braking or coasting goes to power the electric motor. Hybrids get more miles to the gallon sometimes as much as 50 or more in the city and thus pollute far less than the average vehicle.
RIDE Solutions is a carpool matching and alternative transportation service funded in part by local governments and a grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transit. It's a service of the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission and the New River Valley Planning District Commission. Find more information at www.ridesolutions.org.
